  • Full cycle development and implementation of Logistics operations for Global factories and cross-dock facilities.  Lead the project that included data modeling, system architecture, configuration, and analysis of business requirements.

  • In addition, led a team of five professionals and several developers in coordinating integration with SAP and Legacy Order Entry systems and for developing reporting systems using Business Objects.

 

Project Leader – Planning & Integration, John Deere Supply Net, Moline, Illinois.  2000 – 2003

  •    Led design, development, and application integration for Supplier Network.  The JD Supply Net was an e-business initiative to provide suppliers with a web based front end for order entry, order tracking.  This tool was linked to inbound transportation network to optimize continuous moves of complete goods, parts, and accessories.

 

 

Project Lead – Demand Collaborate Project, Consumer Products, Charlotte, NC.   1999 – 2000

  •    Managed a consumer products team through the installation and implementation of the Manugistics Networks Collaborate, a web-based tool applying market intelligence and providing demand forecasts.
  •    By deploying a collaborative forecasting solution, the project enabled customer-level forecasting, increased forecast accuracy 60%, removed 5 cycle days from process, and reduced staffing requirements by 50%.

Regional Engineer — Managed air quality regulations and monitored emissions inventory for various industrial sectors in North Carolina. Worked with United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) as a panel member of the national pharmaceutical team in forming regulatory compliance stipulations for the pharma industry.  Coordinated the use of USEPA Screen and ISCST Models and generate reports to analyze the effects of industrial pollutant dispersion.

Planning & Logistics Engineer (1987 – 1989)

Team member of oil well planning and material logistics team.   Provided planning and material allotment for transportation to offshore sites from base locations.  Provided material specifications, recommendations and global tender evaluation for oil field equipment purchases.  As a Materials Engineer was member of the global material procurement team, which recommended purchase initiatives and promoted supplier diversity.

     

Executive Production Engineer (1984 – 1987)

Worked on offshore oilrigs as a production engineer.   Was involved with operations and oil well reservoir study and well completions.  Lead a team of six professionals and ten staff members in completions, testing of high-pressure gas wells, and recommending remedial methods for production enhancement.  Worked on high-pressure oil/gas wells in Indonesia as part of an extended training program conducted by Schlumberger. Collaborated with Halliburton on coiled tube cementing processes during work-over operations to stimulate oil wells.

I was a team Leader for a reset team of six members that would go to different supermarket chains to set up new locations for upcoming new items and to remove the discontinue items. I worked in the remodel team, and I did special projects.

My Job was to help students with their Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the program, I would call, email, and Skype with them to make sure they would stay active with the program. If they had any difficulties understanding the first two phases I would direct them so they would not quit the program and continue with their education. Dr. Vasconcelos got his PhD in John Hopkins University. He has a very successful life in the Academia side. Jorge Vasconcelos is currently a research scientist at the Institute for Security Information of the Johns Hopkins University, working in the fields of Embedded Computing Security and Computing Fundamentals Education, particularly developing undergraduate educational projects for computer architecture and mentoring students implementing IS&A applications in microcontrollers.

 

He is also an Academic Advisor in Atlantic International University, AIU, and a member of the Academic Council.

 

He received his B.Sc. in Computer Engineering (with honors) from the Arturo Rosenblueth Foundation, in Mexico City in 1996, and his M.S.E. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Johns Hopkins University (May 2000 and 2008, respectively.)

 

His doctoral research focused in four aspects of Computer Science Education: (i) application of the constructivist paradigm to programming instruction, (ii) creation of instruments for early detection of cognitive abilities required in algorithmic problem solving, (iii) study of individual differences to promote differentiated instruction within the computer science classroom, and (iv) design of curricular models focused in problem solving and algorithmic thinking. In the future, he intends to incorporate computer architecture, hardware control, cryptography, and information security, into his research on computer education.

 

Jorge has taught introductory computer science for almost two decades, and published five high school textbooks for the Mexican market. While at Johns Hopkins, he has served as instructor for Summer Programs (CTY and CS department), developed the courses Algorithmic Thinking and Embedded Systems Fundamentals, and has been co-instructor of Computer Security Architectures. He has also been research assistant in Physics and Astronomy for Universum, Mexico City’s science center, and IT consultant for the Office of International Students (JHU) and the Law Office of Nava-Garces (Mexico).

 

He received doctoral scholarships from the Fulbright Program, Encyclopedia Britannica and CONACyT (Mexican Council for Science and Technology.) He won the George M. L. Sommerman Award for teaching assistant (JHU) and an honorific mention during the Sixth Graduate Research Symposium at the College of William and Mary. He is member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the IEEE and the ACM.
